As the CEO of Grower Direct I am thrilled to be able to announce that one of our franchisee store owners will be representing Canada in the American Flora Art Cup being held this July in Holambra, São Paulo, Brazil.
Heather de Kok, AAF, AIFD, PFCI has been selected to compete in this prestigious flower design event on behalf of Canada. She will be competing against designers from all over the world. Workshops, decorated rooms and a large comprehensive trade fair are the main attractions.
Based on the successful stage of the internal market, entrepreneurs in floriculture and the Brazilian Academy of Floral Art (ABAF) are bringing to the Brazilian market the World Cup of Americas in floral art. 12 florists, winners of their countries cup, will perform on their booths and also on stage, performing simultaneously and in parallel.
The countries represented at the World Cup are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, United States, Guatemala, Mexico and Puerto Rico. For two days (09 and 10 July), the 12 artists will go through five different events, with themes and strict time constraints. At first, there will be two tests: the first is a sculpture with the floral theme Amazon jungle, 90 minutes for production and the second, a-surprise box, whose theme will be launched on time, with 45 minutes work.
On the second day of trial, the 12 artists will perform three tasks:
- First, make a “Table for two, with the theme” Sea of the Americas, 70 minutes.
- Second will be a bridal bouquet, with free theme and 60 minutes of time.
- Third and final day features a “Consag” , with free theme and 15 minutes to do the
On the third day, only the five designers best scored by the jury in the previous days will participate in the final step. The evaluation criteria will be the composition, idea and originality, harmony of colors, technique and mechanics.
The final competition takes place on stage, including two challenges to the five finalists under the watchful eyes of the jury and the public. Two boxes will be surprises, with topics announced right at the trial time and considering 30 minutes for development for each one. The overall coordination of the America’s Cup is headed by Augusto De La Flor – USA.
Besides the World Cup, the 20th Enflor and the 8th Garden Fair will feature lectures, workshops, decorated rooms by famous artists, exclusive events for exhibitors and an extensive trade exhibition, which displays to visitors the latest releases in flowers and ornamental plants, packaging, gifts, tools, accessories, herbs, seeds, ground covers, flower pots, garden furniture, etc. Read More
