Sunflowers:A field of Sunflowers

Life-jackets were once stuffed with dried Sunflower stems to make them buoyant.

Sunflowers were used to clean up radiation from the Chernobyl disaster. The roots absorbed caesium and strontium which removed 95% of radioactivity from irradiated water sources.

 

Red RoseRoses:

Rose oil is the base for the most expensive perfumes. Why? Because it takes 4 tons of roses to make only 2lbs of Rose oil!

Daffodil sap has sharp crystalline structures which makes them unpalatable to grazing animals like cows, goats and sheep.

After you cut them they keep growing! A cut Tulip can grow up to an inch each day in the vase.

How many species of flowering plants are there on earth? The estimate is approximately 250,000! Only about 85% have been cataloged so far.

 

The oldest known flower is dated to 125 million years ago. Named Archaefructus sinensis it was discovered in China (the name means: ancient fruit from China). It is believed that this flower grew in shallow lakes at the time of dinosaurs.Worlds oldest flower

The worlds Smallest Flower – Wolffia blooms – one dozen of them would very easily fit on the head of a pin! Wolffia is a type of duckweed that grows on the surface of ponds and slow streams.
