But as impressive as those things are, they pale in comparison to these Guinness World Record holders!
The Largest Fresh Flower Lei-Garland
In 2012, in Chennai, India, 120 people created the world’s largest fresh-flower lei, which measured 5.01 km (3.11 miles) long. The lei was made of 80 000 fresh carnations in assorted colours.
The Tallest Bloom
The record holder for the tallest bloom is the Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum), grown by Louis Ricciardiello of the USA. In 2010, it measured 3.1m (10 ft 2.25 in).
The Longest Flower Structure
The longest flower structure goes to the dragon made with 112 800 pots of chrysanthemums at the 10th China Chrysanthemum Exhibition in Kaifeng City, Henan Province. The flower structure measured 166.15 m (545 ft 1.3 in) long.
The Longest Carpet of Flowers
Another world record for China! In 2011, during the 29th Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Festival in Kaifeng City, 120 people over 8 days created the longest carpet of flowers. It measured 2011 m (6 597 ft 9.07 in) long and 1.65m (5ft 4.96 in) wide. 22 110 potted chrysanthemums were used.
Largest Wedding Bouquet
The largest wedding bouquet, measuring 60.09m (187 ft 1″) long, was made in 2003 using 1500 flowers, including 500 roses, 400 carnations, 200 daisies, 60 lilies and 340 baby’s breath. This massive bouquet weighed 92 kg (202.8lb).
The Slowest Flowering Plant
The slowest-flowering plant is the Puya raimondii, a rare giant bromeliad species native to Peru. It takes an average of 80-150 years for the plant to produce flowers. And once the cluster of white flowers appears, the plant dies.
Largest Awareness Ribbon Made of Flowers
In November 2007, the Dubai Healthcare City created the largest awareness ribbon made of flowers. The ribbon measured 28.71 , (94 ft 2 in) long and 19.68 ft (64 ft 6 in) wide. It was made of 105 000 pink carnations to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
The Most Chrysanthemum Blooms on a Single Plant
In 2011, Yoshiteru Nomura of Japan, cultivated a chrysanthemum plant with 4351 blooms, the most blooms on a single stem. The plant measured 4.5m (14ft 9in) high and 2.2m (7ft 2 in) wide.
The Most Blooms on a Hellebore Plant
In 2006, gardener Anna Maclean of the UK created a hellebore plant with a world record of 66 blooms.
The Tallest Rose Bush
In 2009, American gardener, Robert Bendel grew a red rose bush that measured 5.66 m (18ft 7 in) tall.
Most People Planting Flower Bulbs Simultaneously
In 2010, 636 people planted flower bulbs simultaneously at Butt’s Close Park at Hitchin, UK. The group planted Ruby Giant crocus bulbs.
