So what happens after the big awards show? The stars let loose and party! One of the biggest, most-talked about parties is the the Academy Awards Governors Ball. This glamorous, glitzy gala is the official after-party hosted by the Academy for approximately 1500 nominees, presenters and other VIPs. The event is catered by the celebrity chef, Wolfgang Puck and his team of hard working staff. This year, the menu and the decor reflected the theme, “Oscars in 3D.”
Florist Mark Held, owner of Mark’s Garden, returned for his 20th consecutive year to impress the guests with his dazzling floral designs. This year, he decided to go with the chic and modern colour combination of green and purple. He and his team created beautiful and elegant centerpieces using flowers from around the world, including exotic orchids, succulents, green anthurium and purple kale.
The floral arrangements were definitely impressive, especially the “living shadow boxes” affixed underneath the clear, glass cocktail tables. When guests rested their fancy drinks on the table, they could see the beautiful arrangement below.
The party was lavish, but the Governors Ball also took steps to reduce their carbon footprint. Environmentally initiatives included recycling and re-purposing every plastic, metal, glass and wood used during the event; sourcing local, sustainable food for the menu; using energy efficient LED lights; and the floral arrangements were donated to homes for the aging.
