A forest of crooked trees. It sounds that like an eerie setting for a fantasy story, but believe it or not, there is a place like this on Earth.

In Gryfino, Poland, there is a living, breathing forest dubbed “Crooked Forest” with about 400 trees with curved “J-shaped” trunks that all bend in the same direction.

The Crooked Forest is a mystery as to why and how the trees have become crooked. Even almost a century later, the only thing that is certain is that the trees were planted in 1930. It is believed that human intervention, as opposed to Mother Nature, caused the trunks to be crooked, but the specifics aren’t clear. One story suggests that a group of farmers bent the trunks after planting them, hoping to make furniture out of them. However, there is no hard evidence to prove this was the case.

We may not know how these crooked trees came to be, but we can still marvel at the sight of the odd-looking, yet highly intriguing Crooked Forest!
