Today is Mother-in-Law’s Day! This holiday, which is celebrated on the 4th Sunday in October, was created in 2002 to honour mother-in-laws. And of course, some of you are probably thinking, “Do we need another holiday to celebrate moms? Isn’t that what Mother’s Day is all about?”
Well, yes and no. Mother’s Day (which is celebrated in May) is day to honour mothers and mother figures, including step-mothers, and mother-in-laws. But, mother-in-laws are often neglected on Mother’s Day, so we need a separate holiday to celebrate mothers-in-law.
Whether you think we need another holiday or not, mothers-in-law deserve to be celebrated. Everyone wants to feel special sometimes! Even if you don’t particularly like her, you can build a better relationship with her by showing some respect and appreciation. After all, she is the mother of your spouse—the one that gave birth to the love of your life.
And like any other holiday, a gift of flowers is perfect for the occasion. Flowers, especially her favourite ones, would put a smile on her face and brighten up her day! Add a greeting card with a few words of encouragement to make her feel even more special. If she is an avid gardener, a potted plant is another great gift idea.
