Frost Flowers – It is the Season!

Frost flowers, have you ever heard of them? I hadn’t, until today. Turns out they aren’t really flowers but they are just as beautiful…

These are created when moisture inside plant stems expands as it freezes which forces it out of long thin cracks and creates a ribbon of ice. The ribbons curl which creates the appearance of a translucent or white flower.

Usually a frost flower is only visible in the early morning as they melt quickly.
